"Connecting paddlers through safe and fun group events"
Date(s): April 23, 2016
Leader: Ray Ziemer
Co-Leader: Paul Clifford
Location: Mack Road Canoe Launch to McDowell Grove or Naperville
Skill Level: Beginner
Category: Day Trip
Details: Generally an easy paddle from the Blackwell Forest Preserve canoe launch at Mack Road, through residential areas and into Warrenville's historic district. The chute at the former site of the Warrenville Grove Dam can usually be paddled, but a portage trail is also available. From there the water trail continues into McDowell Grove for a 4 1/2 mile trip, which we may extend into Naperville, adding 2 miles if we are up for tackling the Fawell Dam.
Since it's a short trip, we will make the car shift 10:00 a.m. Bring your own lunch. Mack Road canoe launch is just a quarter mile east of Rte. 59 between Roosevelt Rd. (Rte 38) and Batavia Rd.
We can look forward to a special treat this year, as forest preserve ecologist Jesse DeMartini will be opening up the Urban Streams Research Center just a short hike up the Cenacle Trail into Blackwell Forest Preserve. Jesse will offer a guided tour of the facility and make it available for our lunch stop.
