The Wisconsin Canoe Symposium (WCS) is an enjoyable weekend where you can receive coaching in a quiet water setting from experienced, certified instructors who will assess your skills and lead you on the path to improvement at your own pace. The location is approximately 60 minutes north of Madison, Wisconsin.

Courses will be available for all skill levels in both solo and tandem open canoe, including Introduction, Touring, Advanced Touring, and Interpretive Freestyle. WCS also offers a “Creeking FreeStyle” course on a section of the nearby Mecan River.

The student-to-instructor ratio is limited to 5 to 1.  Bring your own canoe, paddle, and PFD; rentals will be available on a very limited, first-come-first-served basis.

Arrive as early as Thursday evening and paddle through Sunday noon.  Accommodations include motel style rooms (very limited availability this year), bunkhouses, and camping (with or without electric hookup).  Meals can be on your own, or are available throughout the event in the very sociable setting of the camp’s dining hall.

The Wisconsin Canoe Symposium is organized and hosted by Tracy Hunt and Paul Klonowski.  For more information, contact Tracy at   or Paul at

For registration forms and general information, including the features of the camp and driving directions, refer to the FreeStyle Canoeing website:
