This is the first in the Prairie State Canoeists Training Series.
This class will be split into two components to create an optimal learning experience:
March 29: We will meet at Naperville North High School where we will learn basic boat fit, discuss gear and it's use, and practice capsize drills in a nice 82 degree pool. Participants will need to pay a $10 admission fee to the school on-site. Participants must supply their own boat, paddle, and PFD. A sprayskirt is optional. Boats must be clean with no leaves, mud, etc. A host is available at the school if needed and boats will be inspected prior to being allowed in the pool. We highly encourage using your own boat, but if you wish to rent a boat, add $5 if you wish to rent a whitewater boat from the school.
May 3: We will meet at Patterson Lake in Aurora. This ACA-developed curriculum will teach you the basics of paddling your kayak. Instructors will focus on guiding you to effectively and efficiently paddle your craft in all directions skillfully on calm protected waters.
Early bird registration: $15 for PSC members, $35 for non-members (if registered by February 29)
Regular pricing: $20 for PSC members, $40 for non-PSC members (between March 1 and March 26)
Participants will need to bring their own boat, paddle, PFD, snacks, lunch, and all personal items. Instructors will contact participants prior to the event with special instructions or equipment needs.
ACA membership is required for participation. You will be asked to purchase a $5 one-day membership or supply your ACA member number at checkout.
Early bird rate is in effect until February 29. Registration will close on March 26.
