Date: May 16, 2020
Leader: Steve LaPorte Co-Leader: Dave Watts
Location: DuPage River (Hammel Woods to Shepley Rd.)
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Category: Instruction Details: Regretfully, I have decided to cancel this trip due to Covid 19. While paddling poses no increased risk of acquiring the disease, car shifts are a petri dish. Under the current circumstances, it would be the height of irresponsibility to conduct a car shift.
Please keep an eye on the PSC schedule. I have a couple of ideas for no-shuttle trips, including the Confluence Loop and possibly some couples’ trips, in which couples would shuttle themselves.
Needless to say, when this situation changes, I will be scheduling trips again.
This class will teach basic moving water skills that every river canoeist should have. Students will build on the skills learned in the Introduction to Paddling class, and will learn such maneuvers as upstream ferries, downstream ferries, eddy turns and peel outs. This class is open to both tandem & solo canoes.
Students will also receive instruction on reading the river and recognizing hazards.
PREREQUISITE: Students must have completed the PSC Introduction to Paddling class or its equivalent. Additional Information will be provided to anyone interested. If you have not attended the PSC Introduction to Canoe class, you must contact the Lead Instructor, Steve LaPorte, by clicking on the blue name link, before registering.
There will be a coached trip (free of charge) on May 30th. Students are encouraged to attend, to practice the skills they learned in Moving Water 1. In the event that Moving Water 1 must be postponed, May 30th will be the new date for the class.
