"Connecting paddlers through safe and fun group events"
River Sweep Report, 5/21/16
Prairie State Canoeists volunteers joined several shore crews in the Winfield – West Chicago- Warrenville area to pick up trash on the West Branch of the DuPage for the 25th Annual DuPage River Sweep sponsored by the Conservation Foundation. Among the 7 paddlers who turned out were three solo paddlers and two tandem couples including Voytek Miezal who also helped with the car shuttle. Putting in at Winfield’s Lions Park, we had the feeling previous high water events had washed a lot of trash downstream. Nevertheless when we reached the canoe launch at Mack Road, we had several boatloads of junk – in addition to the dozens of bursting trash bags were tires, pallets, and a few very colorful goodies! (Patti and Steve won the prize for Most Unusual Item). Thanks to all for your hard work on this day.
