Prairie State Canoeists
A Northeast Illinois Canoe and Kayak Club
Date(s): Saturday, May 5th thru Saturday, May 12th, 2018 Leader: Gary Konecny Co-Leader: Regina Watts Location: Near Wolverine, Michigan Skill Level: Intermediate, cold water paddling Category: Day trips Details: Join us for a unique paddling experience in the northern end of the lower Michigan peninsula in early spring. This is in the Pigeon River Country covered with miles of forests, roaming elk herds and laced with plenty of great rivers to paddle. We will paddle 8 days (May 5-12 weather permitting) on sections of the surrounding rivers with some less known but still great paddles. Drawing from the Pigeon River, Black River, Canada Creek, Ocqueoc River and the Sturgeon River to the east and the Bear River, Jordan River and the Maple River in Emmet County to the west, we will have a great selection to keep it interesting. We intend to base camp at Sturgeon Valley Campground in Wolverine, MI. The private campground is located on the Sturgeon River and has the advantage to hot showers at night with the town of Wolverine close by for gas, supplies, groceries and restaurants. Cost is $25/night/campsite with 2 tents allowed per site. Open all year round. Come for part or all week. Contact leaders thru links above,
